The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Thor Griffith, taking him 52 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Tate Ratledge in No. 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Donovan Jackson in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Savion Williams was still sitting there in slot 127, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
JJ Pegues at Round 5, Pick 28 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at the 243rd pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
