Houston Texans

Williams should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in No. 167 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Savion Williams, the No. 93 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Griffith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 16
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 20
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 23
Taking Jalon Walker in pick No. 89 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.26 · Pick 127 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 82
They will replay Donovan Jackson at slot 127 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.28 · Pick 167 · Savion Williams · WR · rank 93
You do not let a wide receiver like Savion Williams reach No. 167 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.25 · Pick 243 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 297
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
