Somebody in the 243rd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Zavion Thomas, the No. 224 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Anthony Hill Jr. in slot 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Caleb Banks still on the board at the 59th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Jadarian Price at the 69th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Logan Jones is a better player than pick No. 106 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Oscar Delp was the payoff at No. 141. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Domani Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
You do not let a wide receiver like Zavion Thomas reach Round 7, Pick 27 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
