For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: running back is exactly as bare as it was.
The Banks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Prysock has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They liked Gennings Dunker enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 6. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Banks at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Jacob Rodriguez went about where he belonged in pick No. 69. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Sam Roush higher than the 106th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ephesians Prysock in No. 167 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Xavier Nwankpa in slot 243 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
