You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Thor Griffith at the 243rd pick, roughly 52 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Phillips at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Isaiah Bond at slot 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Donovan Jackson at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Phillips in the 127th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Bhayshul Tuten slipping to Round 5, Pick 28 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
