Houston Texans

The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Johnson: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Tez Johnson, the No. 99 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 5 slot.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Ratledge proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 16
In pick 25 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 70
Tate Ratledge at the 58th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 82
Donovan Jackson in pick No. 89 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.26 · Pick 127 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 126
Darius Alexander at No. 127 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.28 · Pick 167 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 99
Tez Johnson at slot 167 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.25 · Pick 243 · Donovan Edwards · RB · rank 189
Donovan Edwards at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
