The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 89 spots for Will Howard, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
A reach on JT Tuimoloau in the 45th overall pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Ozzy Trapilo in No. 76 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Mello Dotson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 115. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Will Howard in Round 5, Pick 12 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
