The Dolphins did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Quinshon Judkins fell into the Round 5 slot.
The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
So much rides on Nick Emmanwori that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in No. 48, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Somehow Demetrius Knight Jr. was still sitting there in pick 98, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Hayden Conner at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Kyren Lacy at par in slot 116, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Jaeden Roberts in Round 4, Pick 32 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 149 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 154th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
A reach on Kaden Prather in the 224th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
KJ Jefferson at Round 7, Pick 36 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
