Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Ben Sauls, the No. 157 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 7 slot. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Uiagalelei reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Jahdae Barron higher than pick 22, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in pick No. 114: Luke Kandra for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Hayden Conner in Round 4, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at the 149th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Savion Williams at the 154th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DJ Uiagalelei at slot 224 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a linebacker like Karene Reid reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A specialist of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
