The real work happened on the phones. The Eagles fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Devin Singletary by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens at pick 50 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 22, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jalen McMillan in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 97, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 137 with a little surplus value in Cedric Gray. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board had Braelon Allen higher than the 163rd pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and LaDarius Henderson was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Chau Smith-Wade here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Baker slipping to the 186th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steele Chambers slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 19 is lovely value for the linebacker. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
