When a board-topper like Jaylin Simpson slides to the 186th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If Driskell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for Cooper Beebe in the 62nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at pick 91. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Justin Eboigbe at Round 4, Pick 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Ethan Driskell in the 158th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kurtis Rourke at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Maurice Smith in slot 242 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
