Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cardinals spent the 78th pick on Dillon Gabriel, a name the board had a full 52 spots lower.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 47 with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. It fills a real need, too.
Dillon Gabriel in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Howard Cross III in pick No. 113 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Jason Marshall Jr. at the 151st overall pick, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
