The Dolphins did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Frank Gore Jr. fell into pick 199. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will need Booker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Johnny Wilson at No. 93 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyrice Knight is a better player than pick No. 128 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Austin Booker at pick 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Braelon Allen, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ethan Driskell in slot 162, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A running back of that caliber at the 199th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Sheridan Jones at the 242nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Troy Omeire well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
