Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Kenny Logan Jr., the No. 210 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 242.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Driskell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 33rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 21. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cooper Beebe in slot 65 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick 73; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where D.J. James graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Braelon Allen in No. 154 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Joe Milton III at the 158th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ethan Driskell in pick No. 166, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Trey Knox at pick No. 186 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in No. 199, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Kenny Logan Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
