Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Dolphins will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The James value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection.
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 53 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matt Goncalves in the 94th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DJ James at pick 131 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Joe Milton III at par in the 158th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Christian Jones in pick No. 186, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for De'Corian Clark in No. 199, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Trevor Keegan, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
