There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Dolphins never got to the one that mattered most.
The Powers-Johnson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Hunter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Cooper Beebe in the 65th pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
McKinnley Jackson in pick No. 87 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in pick 155. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Jones in the 186th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Jontrey Hunter still on the board at the 239th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
