You can draft well and still miss the point. The Dolphins did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That Newton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton at the 48th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. It fills a real need, too.
They liked McKinnley Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 79. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josh Newton at Round 3, Pick 36 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 117; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braelon Allen at No. 152 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 155th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in pick 162. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Ethan Driskell at par in Round 6, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, De'Corian Clark at pick No. 199 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
