Every other box got a look, but tight end did not. The Chiefs will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
The Driskell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Reaching for Cephus left real value on the table behind him.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 32: Josh Newton for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A clean, defensible pick in the 133rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Luke McCaffrey slipping to slot 158 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in the 172nd pick, with Braelon Allen worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Ethan Driskell at pick No. 210 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Joshua Cephus in No. 250, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
