Somebody in No. 250 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Tarheeb Still, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had Ja'Lynn Polk higher than pick 64, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Haynes at the 95th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in slot 133: Jarrian Jones for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Braelon Allen at pick No. 158 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
They took Grayson Murphy at par in No. 172, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ethan Driskell in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Tarheeb Still in the 250th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
