The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Andru Phillips, the No. 176 name on the board, sitting there at pick 210 like a gift left on the doorstep. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Adonai Mitchell and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 106
They robbed the room for Matt Goncalves here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 168
A tidy little value on Chau Smith-Wade in pick 172, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 176
Andru Phillips in No. 210 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
