The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and JD Bertrand fell into the 224th pick.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Cephus has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at pick 64 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Javon Foster at the 133rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Cody Schrader at pick No. 172, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Javon Baker in the 185th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tarheeb Still at slot 210 is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
JD Bertrand in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 30 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
