The rest of the league will want that one back. Max Melton tumbling to the Dolphins in pick No. 158 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Xavier Legette in the 41st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Chop Robinson at slot 53 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cooper Beebe at the 64th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in pick No. 155, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Max Melton at No. 158 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Joe Milton III at Round 5, Pick 29 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Ethan Driskell at pick 180 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Christian Jones in pick No. 186 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and the 199th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Jalen Green, who had no business lasting to slot 239. A minor itch, scratched.
