Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Daijahn Anthony, the No. 193 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Kamren Kinchens went about where he belonged in pick No. 33. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Marist Liufau in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Matt Goncalves in Round 3, Pick 31; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at No. 105. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A conviction pick on Beaux Limmer at the 127th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in the 132nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
DJ James at the 133rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Khristian Boyd at par in slot 158, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ethan Driskell in Round 6, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Christian Jones in pick 200, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Daijahn Anthony at No. 239 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
