You could see the war room lean forward. Dwight McGlothern at No. 239 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 24 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Johnny Wilson at pick 118 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 151st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jordan Jefferson at No. 157 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Kendall Milton at slot 186 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Nathan Thomas in pick No. 200, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 239 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
