Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins turned the phones into found money: B+.

by Pjoseph · 2024 NFL Draft · 11 picks · 5 steals · 3 reaches
Value B
Need B
Trades A+
Future B

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Dolphins were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

The Guyton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 24
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 27
Tyler Guyton in slot 55 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 94
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. The roster fit checks out.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 136
Christian Jones in No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 186
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 157 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 132
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at Round 5, Pick 24. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 202
Drake Nugent in pick 186 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
R6.25 · Pick 200 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 179
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 200 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.43 · Pick 218 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 210
JD Bertrand slipping to pick 218 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 214
Josh Proctor at pick No. 239 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
