The trade table was a mismatch, and the Dolphins were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The Guyton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Guyton in slot 55 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Jones in No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 157 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at Round 5, Pick 24. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Drake Nugent in pick 186 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 200 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
JD Bertrand slipping to pick 218 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josh Proctor at pick No. 239 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
