The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chargers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Taliese Fuaga went about where he belonged in slot 16. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Kamari Lassiter in No. 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at pick No. 78, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach pick 104 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for McKinnley Jackson at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brennan Jackson at Round 5, Pick 3 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 180 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tip Reiman at slot 225 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Owens at No. 227 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Coker. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
