The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Wright makes the weekend a net positive. Goncalves has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In the 2nd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 42
No edge and no loss on Chris Braswell in pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
A quiet steal in slot 67: Kingsley Suamataia for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 78
Jaylen Wright in the 101st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 111
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 123
Josh Newton in pick No. 139 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 166
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at No. 181. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 217
A tidy little value on Michael Barrett in the 220th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 252
Fair-plus on Matthew Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
