Call it larceny. Josh Newton sat on the board until Round 5, Pick 37, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice.
If Rogers pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 21st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Haynes at the 64th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Johnny Wilson in Round 3, Pick 32 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Justin Rogers at slot 157, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Josh Newton in pick No. 173 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Nathan Thomas at No. 197 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for De'Corian Clark at pick 241, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
