You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Joe Milton III in No. 158. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 36, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Cooper Beebe at the 55th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
McKinnley Jackson at pick 100 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Elijah Jones at Round 5, Pick 3 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in the 158th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Cornelius Johnson at the 184th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nathan Thomas this early at Round 6, Pick 23. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Sheridan Jones at No. 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
