Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Chargers never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
If Nourzad pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ladd McConkey at the 37th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 51 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Michael Hall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 5, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at pick 84 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 105th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jalen McMillan. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Theo Johnson in No. 110 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Hunter Nourzad in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 6, and it noticed. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Evan Williams at pick 225. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matthew Jones. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
