The trade table was where it all came apart. The Vikings shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They are betting Jackson Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
That Love pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot.
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to pick No. 31. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 49th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at the 82nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Connor Lew at Round 3, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Domani Jackson in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid a round early for Keyshaun Elliott in slot 196, more than the board wanted. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They let Zavion Thomas come to them and pounced at pick 234. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in the 235th overall pick: Andre Fuller for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Nolan Rucci in Round 7, Pick 28 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
