Somebody in pick No. 158 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 55 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Simpson still on the board at Round 5, Pick 22. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trente Jones at the 184th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joe Milton III at the 198th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Nathan Thomas come to them and pounced at pick No. 241. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
