The Lions spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Connor Lew, the No. 82 name on the board, in pick No. 118.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Anthony Hill Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 7. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at slot 118. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jack Endries at pick 128 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Isaiah World, who had no business lasting to pick No. 157. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Domani Jackson in the 181st overall pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dalton Johnson in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Jeff Caldwell in No. 206 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Jadon Canady at the 213th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
