Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

The cost of the Coogan reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. It is not that Hill Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first.

Getting Hill Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the 27th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. More want than need.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Value with a capital V on Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 49, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Anthony Hill Jr. at linebacker with quarterback and edge rusher open.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
Dontay Corleone at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 81
A slide stopped in pick 97, with Daylen Everette worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Kaytron Allen · RB · rank 146
They paid a round early for Kaytron Allen in slot 138, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
R5.23 · Pick 163 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
Nothing to complain about; Beau Stephens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.27 · Pick 167 · Pat Coogan · C · rank 198
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Pat Coogan well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 187
They let Jeff Caldwell come to them and pounced at pick No. 196. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 239
A straight-up fair deal on Eli Heidenreich at slot 234, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Miles Kitselman · TE · rank 223
Miles Kitselman slid further than he should have, and pick 235 is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Desmond Reid · RB · rank 248
No drama and no debate, Desmond Reid went about where he belonged in the 244th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
