Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Germie Bernard got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the 109th overall pick.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Chiefs paired the rookies with proven help, Alec Pierce leading the way.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Arvell Reese and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 29th pick they get a red-zone target to build around, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Gabe Jacas in pick 47 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Keith Abney II in No. 74 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let a wide receiver like Germie Bernard reach slot 109 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 148 with a little surplus value in Dametrious Crownover. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cyrus Allen in the 169th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eric Rivers in the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Toriano Pride Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 210. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
