The Chargers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and James Williams fell into the 181st overall pick.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, JC Latham and all.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, JC Latham at pick No. 17 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 48 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in slot 69: DJ James for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on MarShawn Lloyd, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 5. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A safety of that caliber at pick 110 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Beaux Limmer at the 114th pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke McCaffrey in the 140th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: James Williams still on the board at the 181st pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Trey Knox at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Frank Gore Jr. in slot 253 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
