Somebody in the 252nd pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Fabien Lovett, the No. 184 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Keegan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Paul in No. 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Devontez Walker at the 81st overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
DJ James in pick No. 95 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They jumped the gun on Trevor Keegan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalyx Hunt in the 159th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cody Schrader. The roster fit checks out.
Fabien Lovett at Round 7, Pick 32 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
