Thirty-one other rooms let D'Angelo Ponds slide, and the Vikings were the ones holding the card at the Round 3 slot. Highway robbery. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

If Coogan pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman at No. 49 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 48
Lee Hunter in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
They robbed the room for D'Angelo Ponds here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 108
They jumped the gun on Nicholas Singleton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 85
You do not let a safety like Zakee Wheatley reach pick No. 107 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.23 · Pick 163 · Pat Coogan · C · rank 200
They left a pile of value on the table to take Pat Coogan this early at slot 163. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Matt Gulbin · C · rank 183
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Matt Gulbin at pick 196. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Aaron Anderson · WR · rank 177
They will replay Aaron Anderson at No. 206 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 242
They paid a round early for Eli Heidenreich in the 234th pick, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Miles Kitselman · TE · rank 225
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Miles Kitselman at Round 7, Pick 19 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Andre Fuller · CB · rank 235
Andre Fuller is a better player than pick No. 244 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
