The trade table was a mismatch, and the Dolphins were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Simpson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will need Allen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at No. 55, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
McKinnley Jackson in slot 125 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to the 158th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trente Jones a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Joe Milton III in the 198th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Nathan Thomas in Round 7, Pick 21, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
