You build a draft on nights like this. Cornelius Johnson had no business being available in slot 241, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 26 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 100, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mason McCormick at the 139th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Davis. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dwight McGlothern at the 184th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Joe Milton III at slot 198 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cornelius Johnson in Round 7, Pick 21 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
