The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Dwight McGlothern, the No. 161 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 198 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 69th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the 101st overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Matt Goncalves at No. 108 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Elijah Jones at pick No. 129. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Nathan Thomas in pick 225 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Andrew Raym at par in Round 7, Pick 21, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trevin Wallace at the 253rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
