Whoever sat across the table from the Bears should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Reaching for Dennis-Sutton left real value on the table behind him. The Hecht steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dani Dennis-Sutton well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 63. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Keionte Scott at slot 74 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Zakee Wheatley in the 89th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in No. 108: Sam Hecht for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Nicholas Singleton, who had no business lasting to pick 125. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Isaiah World at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Caleb Douglas in pick 170, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zavion Thomas in pick No. 239 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Josh Cuevas at Round 7, Pick 25 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Robert Spears-Jennings at the 247th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
