The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Anthony Gould fell into pick No. 231.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 64 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Kiran Amegadjie at the 95th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like DeWayne Carter reach the 132nd overall pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Anthony Gould in pick No. 231 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
M.J. Devonshire at No. 245 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Ro Torrence in slot 252 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They did well to land Jalen Coker in No. 255, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
