You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Johnson. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Quinyon Mitchell in Round 1, Pick 22. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in the 50th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Adisa Isaac in slot 53 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Theo Johnson at par in No. 120, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Jones at pick No. 136 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tykee Smith at the 161st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Tyrone Tracy Jr. all the way to pick 172, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cornelius Johnson in Round 6, Pick 35 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
