When a board-topper like Anthony Gould slides to pick 220, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Shirden to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In the end it comes back to Adonai Mitchell, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in the 95th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jamari Thrash at pick 153. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Josh Newton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Anthony Gould at the 220th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a cornerback like Jaylin Simpson reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They paid a round early for Jaden Shirden in Round 7, Pick 9, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
