The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Hart fell into Round 5, Pick 26. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will need Wilson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Johnny Wilson at the 95th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jared Wiley at No. 131 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jacob Cowing in pick 159 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ainias Smith at slot 173 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Jalen Coker was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 1. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
