Boards are made to be trusted, and the Patriots shredded theirs for Theo Johnson. He came off 32 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Mims makes the weekend a net positive.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Amarius Mims at the Round 2 slot is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 39 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Jenkins in the 49th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trey Benson in slot 68 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Theo Johnson at the 104th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Matt Goncalves in pick 108; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They took Andru Phillips at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Dylan Laube in Round 4, Pick 36; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Dwight McGlothern in the 182nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Fair-plus on Tip Reiman, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
