You could see the war room lean forward. Brenden Rice at pick 121 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Nubin at slot 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at No. 51 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe is a better player than pick No. 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brenden Rice at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Adams in the 127th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach Round 5, Pick 32 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cornelius Johnson at pick 204. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylan Ford in pick 216 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A tidy little value on KT Leveston in slot 243, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kimani Vidal at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
