The Dolphins did not so much draft DeWayne Carter as overpay for him, 31 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Rogers makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Adisa Isaac in No. 55 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for DeWayne Carter at pick No. 70, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Chau Smith-Wade at pick 158 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 184, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kendall Milton in the 203rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 232 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kalen DeLoach in pick 233 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Bub Means went about where he belonged in No. 241. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
