The rest of the league will want that one back. Ryan Fitzgerald tumbling to the Commanders in pick No. 238 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The McLaughlin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that.
Jalon Walker in the 61st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Isaiah Bond at pick No. 79 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Quinshon Judkins at No. 148 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McLaughlin. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Ryan Fitzgerald at pick 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Taking Karene Reid in Round 7, Pick 34 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
